In line with the large-scale technical reform and restructuring of the Chinese specialized steel mills,
China has also achieved some progress in the
production capacity, variety and quality of axle steel. In 2005, Chinese axle steel
production reached 1.92 million mt, claiming first-ranked place in the world. Currently, Chinese axle steel
production can basically meet domestic demand, except in the case of some varieties of special specification and high standard. The major axle steel producers are Jiangyin Xingcheng Special Steel,
Baosteel Group Shanghai No. 5 Steel Plant, and Dongbei Special Steel Group.
The axle steel
production of Jiangyin Xingcheng Special Steel totaled 280,000 mt in 2005, accounting for a 15 percent market share in
China. This company has made advances in the variety, quality and cost of axle steel
production in recent years. It has won FAG and NSK approval, and has become the qualified supplier of many famous axle companies in
Sweden,
Germany, and
Japan.
