Australian iron ore miner Fortescue Metals Group has announced that it has shipped a total of 2.5 billionth mt of iron ore since its first exports, marking a significant achievement in the company’s history.

The milestone reflects the company’s expansion over the years into one of the world’s largest iron ore producers.

The company’s operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia have played a central role in reaching this milestone. Fortescue has steadily increased its production and export capacity through continuous investment in mining infrastructure, logistics, and port operations.

Milestone highlights operational scale and efficiency

Reaching 2.5 billion mt of shipments demonstrates the scale and efficiency of Fortescue’s integrated mining and logistics network.

The company continues to focus on maintaining high production levels while improving operational performance across its supply chain.

“Today, operations are more refined, technology has advanced and safety has come a long way… From sitting in the cab as the first ore came across the boom and loading that very first ship, to now standing here at 2.5 billion mt - it’s a full circle moment. One that reflects years of hard work from people right across the business. And that’s what this milestone is really about,” Will Lockyer from Port Operations, who was part of the team that loaded Fortescue’s first shipment, said.
