Japan becomes Port Hedland’s largest iron ore destination in October

In October this year, iron ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland increased 15.48 percent year on year and were up 8.48 percent month on month, totaling 17 million metric tons, according to Port Hedland Port Authority.

According to the released information, iron ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China amounted to 6.47 million metric tons in October, decreasing by 35.62 percent year on year and were down 40.26 percent as compared to September. Japan became the largest export destination for iron ore shipments from Port Hedland in October, with shipments totaling 7.11 million metric tons - up 223 percent year on year and climbing by 179 percent over September. South Korea had iron ore exports at 2.14 millon metric tons, rising by 60.9 percent year on year and up 33.33 percent month on month.
 
Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Fortescue Metals Group and Atlas Iron in the iron ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
