Fortescue posts record iron ore shipments for H1 ended December

Australian iron ore miner Fortescue Metals Group has announced that its iron ore shipments in the second quarter ended December 31 of the financial year 2020-21 rose by 4.7 percent compared to the previous quarter to 46.4 million mt, contributing to record iron ore shipments for a half year of 90.7 million mt. According to Fortescue, during the December quarter it mined 50.0 million mt of iron ore, falling by 14 percent from the previous quarter and down by eight percent from the same period of the previous financial year.

Meanwhile, in the given period, the average price received increased to US$122 per dry metric ton (dmt) compared to the September quarter price of US$106/dmt, representing a 15 percent increase quarter on quarter.

Fortescue said that the first ore processing commenced at the Eliwana mine in December 2020. The company’s iron ore shipment guidance for the financial year 2020-21 remains unchanged at 175-180 million mt.
