Western Australia's Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has announced that it has granted approval for Australia-based miner Fortescue's large open-cut mine Iron Bridge in the Pilbara region of Western Australia that will generate up to 15 million mt of magnetite each year, recommending 17 strict conditions to minimize and mitigate any potential environmental impacts.

The magnetite iron ore project proposal includes the construction of associated infrastructure as well as the transport of magnetite ore to Port Hedland for export via a slurry pipeline.

The Iron Bridge project will have a mine life of 45 years and will be Fortescue's first foray into magnetite iron ore.
