The Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has initiated a case against Russian steelmaker Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) and its cold rolled electrical steel producing subsidiary VIZ-Stal regarding alleged violation of Part 1 Article 10 of the Federal Law ‘On Protection of Competition'.

The case was initiated upon complaints by Russian pipe producer Chelyabinsk Tube-Rolling Plant (ChTPZ) and Russian pipe company TMK Group against the plants in question for allegedly imposing disadvantageous contract conditions.

NLMK and VIZ-Stal are the only manufacturers of anisotropic electrical steel (transformer steel) in the Russian Federation.

The FAS has noted that NLMK Group sets a high price for anisotropic electrical steel in the domestic market.
