The Russian steelmaker and iron ore producer Evraz Group (Evraz) has released its production results for 2008.
Accordingly, in 2008 Evraz registered a 33.1 percent increase in coke production, a 4.7 percent rise in pig iron production, a 7.1 percent increase in crude steel output and a 5.4 percent rise in its rolled steel production, all compared to 2007. The respective figures in metric tons were 1.87 million, 13.26 million, 17.674 million and 16.082 million. During the period in question, Evraz's output of semi finished products increased by two percent to 4.243 million metric tons, its railway products output rose by 8.3 percent to 2.455 million metric tons, its flat rolled products output increased by 18.8 percent to 2.632 million metric tons, its tubular products output rose by 79.6 percent to 844,000 mt, while its construction products output decreased by 1.1 percent to 5.215 million metric tons, all compared to 2007.
In addition, during the period in question, Evraz's mining division saw a 3.2 percent increase in iron ore concentrate production to 3.615 million metric tons, but an 8.6 percent decrease in sinter production to 7.119 million metric tons, and a 12 percent drop in pellet production to 5.304 million metric tons. Furthermore, Evraz mined 9.065 million metric tons of coking coal in 2008, registering an increase of 130.1 percent over the last year.
In 2008, Evraz increased its vanadium in alloys and chemicals output by 26.3 percent year on year to 15.355 million mt, but decreased its vanadium in slag production by 6.3 percent to 11.010 million mt.
