Evraz issues Q2 operation results, crude steel output up 25.8 percent

The Russian steelmaker and iron ore producer Evraz Group (Evraz) has announced that in Q2 2010 it produced about 4.3 million mt of crude steel, registering an increase of 25.8 percent in year-on-year terms and seven percent growth in quarter-on-quarter terms.
 
Specifically, in Q2 2010, Evraz's Russian crude steel output increased by 20.5 percent to about 3.12 million mt, its European crude steel production went up by 149.4 percent to 165,000 mt, its North American crude steel output increased by 65 percent to 585,000 mt, its South African crude steel production went up by 17 percent to 176,000 mt, while its Ukrainian crude steel production decreased by 2.5 percent to 238,000 mt, all compared to Q2 2009.

In addition, during the second quarter of this year Evraz's steel division produced 467,000 mt of coke - up 23.3 percent, about 3.1 million mt of pig iron - up 22.6 percent, and about 3.74 million mt of rolled steel products - up 14.6 percent, all compared to the same period last year. Overall, Evraz saw year-on-year growth in all sectors of its steel segment, excluding semi-finished products (down 18.4 percent). An increase was observed also in vanadium-added slag production (up 18.7 percent year on year to about 5.5 million mt).

At the same time, in Q2 2010, Evraz's mining segment saw its iron ore concentrate production (Russia) drop by 7.1 percent to 1.47 million mt, its pellet production (Russia) decrease by 4.4 percent to 1.37 million mt, its lumping ore output (Ukraine) decline by 17 percent to 242,000 mt, while its sinter production (Russia) increased by 32 percent to 1.1 million mt and its iron ore fines output (S. Africa) rose by 154.4 percent to 147,000 mt, all compared to Q2 2009. Furthermore, in Q2 this year, Evraz registered a 47.4 percent year-on-year decrease in its coking coal mining to 1.44 million mt and a 17.6 percent year-on-year drop in its concentrate production to 1.43 million mt.
