In May this year, new commercial vehicle registrations in the European Union (EU) fell by 44.4 percent year on year to 109,431 units, although the decline was less pronounced than in April as measures to contain the coronavirus were relaxed, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA).

In May, new commercial vehicle registrations declined in all major EU markets. The largest year-on-year decreases were recorded in Spain (-59%), Germany (-47.9%), Italy (-36.5%) and France (-35.0%).

In the first five months of this year, new commercial vehicle registrations in the EU totaled 583,238 units, down 36.7 percent on year-on-year basis due to three successive months of sharp declines. Lithuania (-55.7%) and Spain (-49.3%) saw the largest decreases.
