In August this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production decreased by 0.5 percent in the euro area and by 0.3 percent in the EU-28, as compared with July, while industrial production in July had risen 0.8 percent in the euro area and was up by 0.4 percent in the EU-28, both on month-on-month basis. In August this year compared with August 2014, industrial production increased by 0.9 percent in the euro area and by 1.9 percent in the EU-28. These figures are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union.
As compared to July, in August this year the production of durable goods increased by 2.3 percent in the euro area and by 1.3 percent in the EU-28, while the production of non-durable consumer goods fell by 0.1 percent both in the euro area and in the EU-28. Meanwhile, the production of intermediate goods increased by 0.2 percent in the euro area and remained stable in the EU-28, month on month. In August of the current year, production of capital goods decreased by one percent in the euro area and by 0.3 percent in the EU-28 area, while production of energy fell by three percent in the euro area and by 1.2 percent in the EU-28, all month on month.
Among the member states, in August the highest month-on-month increases were registered in Sweden (+4 percent), Greece (+3.9 percent), and Denmark and France (both +1.6 percent) and the largest decreases in the Czech Republic (-4.3 percent), Croatia (-4.1 percent), and Lithuania (-3.5 percent).
As compared to the same month of 2014, in August this year production of non-durable consumer goods increased by 0.9 percent in the euro area and by 1.1 percent in the EU-28, while production of intermediate goods decreased by 0.6 percent in the euro area and was up by 0.2 percent in the EU-28. In August of the current year, production of durable consumer goods increased by 4.5 percent in the euro area and by 3.6 percent in the EU-28, production of energy decreased by 1.6 percent in the euro area and up by 1.8 percent in the EU-28, while production of capital goods increased by 2.8 percent in the euro area and by 3.1 percent in the EU-28, all year on year.
Among the member states for which data are available, in August this year the largest year-on-year decreases were registered in the Netherlands (-8.9 percent), Estonia (-2.7 percent), Finland (-2.3 percent), and Slovakia (-0.4 percent) and the highest increases in Ireland (+15 percent), Malta (+9.3 percent), Latvia (+6.4 percent) and the Czech Republic and Sweden (both +6.3 percent).
