According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in October this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) decreased by 0.7 percent compared to September and rose by two percent compared to the same month of 2016. In September, production fell 0.2 percent compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in October decreased by 0.4 percent month on month and rose by two percent year on year. In September, production grew 0.1 percent compared to August, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in October decreased by 0.7 percent month on month and was up 1.8 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region decreased by 0.1 percent from September and was up by 2.9 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction decreased by 0.5 percent month on month and was up 2.2 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region fell by 0.3 percent month on month and rose by 1.4 percent year on year.
As compared to October last year, construction output in October this year increased by 38.1 percent in Hungary, by 29.5 percent in Slovenia and by 18 percent in Poland, while a decrease of 14.3 percent was registered in Romania and a drop of 1.2 percent was seen in Spain.
As compared to September, construction output in October this year increased by 8.5 percent in Slovenia and by 5.9 percent in Hungary and by 5.7 percent in Slovakia, while construction output decreased by 2.1 percent in Sweden, by 1.6 percent in the UK and by 1.3 percent both in Germany and Romania.
