Annual inflation in the euro area was 2.1 percent in September this year, up from 2.0 percent in August, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In September last year, the annual inflation rate was 1.5 percent.
Meanwhile, in the European Union (EU-28) annual inflation was 2.2 percent in September, remaining stable compared to August. In September 2017, the annual inflation rate in the EU-28 was 1.8 percent.
The lowest inflation rates in September this year were observed in Denmark (0.5%), Greece (1.1%) and Ireland (1.2%), whereas the highest annual rates were recorded in Romania (4.7%), Hungary (3.7%) and Bulgaria (3.6%). Compared with August, in September annual inflation rose in 14 member states, remained stable in four and fell in nine.
