Annual inflation in the euro area was 2.1 percent in July this year, up from 2.0 percent in June, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In July last year, the annual inflation rate was 1.3 percent.
Meanwhile, in the European Union (EU-28) annual inflation was 2.2 percent in July, up from 2.1 percent in June. In July 2017, the annual inflation rate in the EU-28 was 1.5 percent.
The lowest inflation rates in July this year were observed in Greece (0.8%), Denmark (0.9%) and Ireland (1.0%) whereas the highest annual rates were recorded in Romania (4.3%), Bulgaria (3.6%), Hungary (3.4%) and Estonia (3.3%). Compared with June, annual inflation fell in nine member states, remained stable in six and rose in 13.
