EU-27 industrial output down 0.6 percent in Dec from Nov

In December 2011 as compared with the previous month of November, seasonally-adjusted industrial production fell by 1.1 percent in the euro area and by 0.6 percent in the EU-27. In November, production had remained stable in both zones, month on month.
 
Meanwhile, in December 2011 compared with December 2010, seasonally-adjusted industrial production decreased by two percent in the euro area and by 0.9 percent in the EU-27. These figures are released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
 
As compared to November, in December 2011 production of capital goods decreased 0.8 percent in the euro area and by 0.1 percent in the EU-27, while intermediate goods dropped by 0.7 percent in the euro area and by 0.2 percent in the EU-27. Durable consumer goods increased by 0.2 percent in the euro area, and rose by 0.4 percent in the EU-27.
 
Among the member states for which data are available, in December as compared to November industrial production rose in 11 states and fell in 12. The highest increases were registered in Denmark  (+3.3%), in Finland (+2.6%) and in Ireland (+2.5%), while the largest decreases were in Malta (-2.9%), in Germany (-2.7%), and in Greece and Latvia (both -2.4%).
 
As compared to December 2010, in December 2011 production of capital goods grew by 0.8 percent in the euro area and by 2.3 percent in the EU-27, intermediate goods decreased by 0.5 percent in the euro area but grew 0.5 percent in the EU-27, durable consumer goods fell by 3.9 percent in the euro area and by 0.7 percent in the EU-27, while production of energy decreased by 11.9 percent in the euro area and by 10.6 percent in the EU-27. 
 
Among the member states for which data are available, in December 2011 as compared to December 2010 industrial production rose in eight states and fell in 15. The highest increases were registered in Poland (+10%), in the Czech Republic (+4.4%) and in Latvia (+3.2%), and the largest decreases were seen in Greece (-12.4%), in Luxembourg (-9.6%) and in Portugal (-8.9%).
