The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), the executive body of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) which includes Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia and Armenia, has announced that it has started a safeguard duty investigation on imports of certain flat steel products, including hot rolled, cold rolled, hot-dipped galvanized (HDG) and pre-painted galvanized iron (PPGI) flat products.

The investigation was launched following the application lodged by Russian steel producers Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK), Severstal and NLMK Group, stating that they fear that the safeguard measures on these products imposed by the United States (US), the European Union (EU) and Turkey will increase the imports of the mentioned products in the EEU.
