The European Commission will support the EU’s wind power industry, which is currently facing a unique mix of challenges, for the aim of decarbonizing the steel industry, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said in a statement.

“From wind to steel, from batteries to electric vehicles, our ambition is crystal clear: the future of our clean tech industry has to be made in Europe. Therefore, starting from this month, we will hold a series of Clean Transition Dialogues with industry. The core aim will be to support every sector in building its business model for the decarbonization of industry, because we believe that this transition is essential for our future competitiveness in Europe,” Ursula von der Leyen stated.

Welcoming the vision for a renewed Industrial Strategy, the European Steel Association (EUROFER) stated that the European steel sector, which has launched over 60 industrial-scale decarbonization projects, stands ready to engage with the Commission to develop and implement the urgent actions needed to boost the whole European clean-tech ecosystem.
