The European Commission (EC) has decided to close its in-depth investigation into investment aid in the form of tax relief provided by Hungarian authorities for the country's largest steelmaker Dunaferr, a subsidiary of the Ukrainian steel producer Industrial Union of Donbass.

The EC decided to close the case, which had been opened in April 2008, after it received official notification from the Hungarian authorities saying that Dunaferr was no longer eligible for the aid in question and that the company had not been paid yet.

According to the EC's statement, in the course of the current investigation, Dunaferr decided to withdraw its application to the national authorities for tax relief in 2009.
