Cyclone Vayu to hit India, slow down ship recycling

According to a letter from the Gujarat Maritime Board provided to SteelOrbis, Cyclone Vayu is expected to hit the western coast of India Wednesday, June 12. The Gujarat region is bracing for its impact.

As a result, the Maritime Board instructed “everyone engaged in recycling of ships directly or indirectly to stop all the activities including pulling of ship, lowering of objects, etc. effective June 11, 2019. All ship recycling activity is not allowed in the region until further notice. Notice for the continuation of processes will depend upon a review of the area by the board once conditions are considered safe."
