According to Brazil's Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade's Official Gazette, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil-based flat-rolled steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) has requested an antidumping investigation on the dumping of coated flat-rolled steel products into Brazil from Australia, Mexico, India, China and South Korea.

According to the Brazilian Steel Institute (IABr), flat steel imports into Brazil jumped 172 percent from 2009 to 2010 to 4.06 million tons, which equates to approximately one-third of local Brazilian consumption of flat-rolled steel products.

The products under investigation are flat rolled non-alloy zinc or zinc-aluminium alloy coated steel products of 600 mm and above width commonly classified under HS codes 7210.30.10, 7210.49.10, 7210.61.00 and 7210.70.10. The investigation is expected to last around nine months.

The Brazilian trade ministry is currently investigating 13 cases of alleged dumping related to steel imports, including dumping of flats into Brazil at Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais SA's (Usiminas) request.
