CSC posts steel production rise of 1.81 percent in May over April

Taiwan's largest steelmaker China Steel Corporation (CSC) has announced that in May this year its steel production volume improved by 1.81 percent month on month, reaching 828,432 metric tons, while the year-on-year increase was 23.2 percent.
 
In May, CSC's sales volume amounted to 868,182 metric tons, increasing by 4.04 percent as compared to April and up 41.19 percent year on year.
 
In the month in question, the steelmaker's sales revenues amounted to NTD 20.19 billion ($626.77 million), rising by 8.91 percent month on month and up 89.74 percent year on year, while its income before tax totaled NTD 4.88 billion ($151.49 million).
 
On the other hand, in the first five months of this year, CSC's total production came to 4.06 million metric tons, up 46.32 percent, its sales volume amounted to 4.13 million metric tons, up 43.07 percent, while its sales revenue stood at NTD 90.81 billion ($2.82 billion), up 55.68 percent, all compared to the corresponding period of 2009. The company's profit before tax totaled NTD 22.74 billion ($706.2 million) in the given period.
