Taiwanese steelmaker China Steel Corporation (CSC) has placed an order with German SMS Demag for the supply of a two-strand continuous slab caster. The caster, which will be built at the Kaohsiung location, will be able to produce 2.9 million metric tons of steel slabs. In line with the deal, SMS Demag will also supply the basic and detail engineering as well as all mechanical core components and the entire electrical and automation systems, including the technological control systems. The new caster - the fifth continuous caster to be supplied by SMS Demag to CSC, is scheduled to be operational by late 2008.
