Corus produces the first steel polymer products

With a statement released from Anglo-Dutch steel producer Corus, the company announced that it produced the first steel product that is formed and bonded with polymer in a single step. This new technique is called Polymer Injection Forming (PIF). Application areas of PIF will be mobiles phones, light switches, IT equipment, kitchen appliances, cutlery, automotive components and garden furniture. Corus has spent three years for developing PIF, which is a new technology as it shapes steel and polymer in one step and bonds the thicker layer of polymer to steel. Steel coated with thin layer of polymer has already been in use. This technology presents products with the strength of metal but has flexibility of plastic. Moreover, PIF will reduce costs during production.
