Construction started on the 3,000 cubic meter blast furnace No. 3 of Hebei Province-based Chinese steelmaker Hebei Iron and Steel (HBIS) in Laoting, Hebei on April 3, as announced by China Metallurgical Group Corporation (MCC). The blast furnace will have an annual iron-smelting capacity of 2.0 million mt.

The Laoting steel project is being implemented within the scope of the relocation of the production base of HBIS subsidiary Hebei-based steelmaker Xuanhua Iron and Steel to the coastal area, which will also help ensure cleaner environmental conditions for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
