Macsteel USA - the steel manufacturer, processor and distributor based in Jackson, Michigan - has announced that progress on its new steel manufacturing and distribution facility in Tucson, Arizona has “proceeded exactly as planned.” Construction on the $10-million facility began in May, and since then the slab has been poured and the structural steel and masonry walls have been installed. The siding installation is currently underway. Macsteel says that equipment for the facility has begun arriving at the site and will include two cranes, a 72” slitter, and a 60” CTL (cut-to-length) line. The slitter should be operational by the end of January, with a 60,000-pound master coil capacity and a thickness range of 0.011” to 0.187”. The 60” CTL line will be operational by February 2007, with a 40,000-pound master coil capacity, processing material ranging from 0.020” to 0.138” in thickness. Both the slitter and CTL line will be capable of processing cold rolled, galvanized, pre-painted, hot rolled pickled and oiled, stainless steel, and aluminum, serving customers in the US Southwest and Mexico. The grand opening is scheduled for February 2007.
