Coking coal import traffic dips at Indian ports

Coking coal imports handled by Indian ports was down 4.45 percent to 16.61 million mt during the April-July period this year, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, according to data released by Indian Ports Association (IPA) on Monday, August 21.

During the April-July period of 2016, Indian ports handled 17.27 million mt of coking coal traffic, the IPA data showed.

According to government data, total coking coal imports during the financial year 2016-17 ended March 31 was recorded at 41.64 million mt. In the current financial year, total coking coal imports have been forecast to touch the 50 million mt mark.
