Chinese industrial enterprises’ gross profits up 10 percent in Jan-Aug

In the January-August period of the current year, the aggregate gross profit of large and medium-sized industrial enterprises in China amounted to RMB 3.83304 trillion ($0.622 trillion), increasing by 10.0 percent year on year, according to data released by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on September 28, with the increase rate in question 1.7 percentage points lower than that recorded in the January-July period of the current year. In August alone, the aggregate gross profit of large and medium-sized industrial enterprises in China amounted to RMB 482.56 billion ($78.3 billion), decreasing by 0.6 percent compared to August 2013, with the increase rate in question 14.1 percentage points lower than that recorded in July of the current year. 

Of the 41 major industrial sectors in China, in the January-August period this year 36 sectors registered year-on-year increases in gross profit, while five sectors witnessed year-on-year decreases in gross profit. In particular, in the January-August period this year, the aggregate gross profit of the ferrous metal mining industry in China was RMB 49.20 billion ($7.99 billion), decreasing by 9.8 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the aggregate gross profit of the ferrous metal smelting and processing industry in China was RMB 74.67 billion ($12.12 billion) in the given period, increasing by 18.2 percent year on year. The aggregate gross profit of the metal product manufacturing sector in China in the January-August period this year was RMB 108.04 billion ($17.54 billion), increasing by 12.7 percent year on year. In addition, in the given period, the total gross profit of China's automobile manufacturing sector amounted to RMB 377.99 billion ($61.36 billion), indicating a year-on-year increase of 22.6 percent, while the total gross profit of the country's railway, ship, aerospace and transportation machinery and equipment manufacturing sector increased by 37.7 percent year on year to RMB 53.86 billion ($8.74 billion).
