In February this year, China's producer price index (PPI) for its ferrous metal smelting and rolling sector decreased by 0.9 percent year on year, shifting from a year-on-year rise of 0.7 percent recorded in January this year, according to data released by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on March 10. This month, producers’ prices will likely rebound or at least not fall further in the worst case, due to the easing of pressure from the coronavirus outbreak and the resumption of production.

China's overall producer price index (PPI) edged down by 0.4 percent year on year in February, shifting from a year-on-year rise of 0.1 percent recorded in January, and edged down by 0.5 percent month on month. Meanwhile, in February Chinese industrial producers' purchase prices were down 0.5 percent year on year and declined by 0.3 percent compared to January this year.
