China’s steel bar exports decrease by 61 percent in 2017

In December last year, China’s export volumes of steel bars, angles/channels and steel plate amounted to 1.06 million mt, 270,000 mt and 3.13 million mt, respectively declining by 50.1 percent, 40.3 percent and 23.5 percent, while its export volume of wire rod amounted to 170,000 mt, up 3.0 percent year on year, according to the Chinese customs authorities. 

In 2017, China’s export volumes of steel bars, angles/channels, steel plate and wire rod totaled 16.08 million mt, 3.43 million mt, 43.19 million mt, and 2.05 million mt, decreasing by 61.0 percent, 34.0 percent, 10.1 percent and 9.7 percent, respectively, year on year. 

In December last year, China exported 5.67 million mt of finished steel, decreasing by 27.4 percent year on year, while the country’s finished steel exports in the full year totaled 75.41 million mt, down 30.5 percent year on year, as previously announced by the Chinese customs authorities.
