China’s crude steel output up 8.3% in Jan-Oct

In the first 10 months of the current year, China's crude steel output amounted to 652.48 million mt, up 8.3 percent year on year, as announced by China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on November 26. The growth rate in question is 6.2 percentage points higher than that recorded in the same period last year.

In the January-October period, China's overall outputs of coke and ferroalloys amounted to 396.55 million mt and 29.29 million mt, up 8.2 percent and 13 percent respectively, both on year-on-year basis. Also in the given period, China's imports of iron ore concentrate, finished steel and billet totaled 668.35 million mt, 11.62 million mt and 460,000 mt, up 10.1 percent, 0.6 percent and 57.8 percent respectively, all year on year. As for exports, in the January-October period this year, China's exports of finished steel and metallurgical coke amounted to 51.97 million mt and 3.24 million mt, up 13.6 percent and 260 percent respectively, both on year-on-year basis.

In October alone, China's outputs of crude steel, finished steel, coke and ferroalloys increased by 9.2 percent, 12.3 percent, 9.2 percent and 13.6 percent respectively, all year on year. Meanwhile, in the given month, China's finished steel imports amounted to 1.14 million mt, while its exports of finished steel totaled 5.07 million mt, down by around 100,000 mt and up by about 150,000 mt respectively, month on month. Additionally, in October, China exported 520,000 mt of coke, up 210,000 mt month on month.

In October this year, China's composite steel price index issued by the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) was at 99.76 points, down 1.62 points month on month.
