According to the latest data issued by the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBSC), in the first two months of 2008 China produced 75.63 million mt of pig iron, 79.45 million mt of crude steel and 89.05 million mt of finished steel, with a rise of 7.3 percent, 6.4 percent and 12.3 percent respectively compared with the same period of last year.
In addition, in the same period China's output of raw coal reached 360 million mt, up 13.4 percent year on year; national crude oil output amounted to 30.78 million mt, up 1.2 percent; electric energy production increased by 11.3 percent to 516.9 billion kWh; and cement production dropped by 2.8 percent to 140 million mt. Meanwhile, the output of automobiles increased by 12.5 percent to 1.52 million units, of which saloon car production accounted for 820,000 units, up 10.0 percent.
