China’s coal output rises at slower rate in Aug, imports maintain rapid growth

In August this year, China’s raw coal output amounted to 316.0 million mt, up 5.0 percent on year-on-year basis, 7.2 percentage points slower than the growth rate recorded in July, as announced by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). At the same time, China imported 32.95 million mt of coal in August this year, up 14.9 percent, 1.5 percentage points faster than July. Coal imports reached 220.28 million mt in the January-August period of the year, rising by 8.1 percent, 1.1 percentage points faster than in the January-July period.

In the January-August period of the current year, China’s raw coal output amounted to 2.41 billion mt, increasing by 4.5 percent year on year, 0.2 percentage points higher than the growth recorded in the first seven months of this year.
