China announces ban on imports of coal and iron ore from North Korea

China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOC) has announced a ban on imports of coal, iron ore and other commodities from North Korea, in line with new United Nations sanctions.

The sanctions are in response to a recent intensification of nuclear and missile tests by North Korea. China buys an estimated two-thirds of exports from North Korea, making its cooperation essential for the success of sanctions against the country.
