The Chilean Steel Institute (ICHA) said it will help steelmakers obtain an “essential service” permit during the Covid-19 pandemic. The permit is granted by the Chilean ministry of economy to “essential areas,” which are allowed to operate.

The steelmaking industry is one of those essential areas in Chile. The country, along with Argentina and Peru, is in a lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Several regions are in what the Chilean government called as a “total quarantine,” which indicate even stricter measures.
