CAAM: China's auto output declines by 44.5 percent in March

In March this year, production and sales of automotive vehicles in China amounted to 1.422 million units and 1.43 million units, respectively, down 44.5 percent and 43.3 percent year on year, while rising by 399.2 percent and 361.4 percent month on month, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). In the January-March period of the year, production and sales of automotive vehicles in China amounted to 3.474 million units and 3.672 million units, respectively, down 45.2 percent and 42.4 percent year on year.

According to CAAM, following the effective control of the coronavirus pandemic in China, automakers gradually resumed their operations, though demand was still curbed by the ongoing existence of the virus in some regions. Overall sales activities in March were much better than in February. Meanwhile, CAAM said it believes that China’s policies to stimulate the automobile industry will take effect in the coming period.

In March, passenger vehicle output and sales in China totaled 1.049 million units and 1.043 units, down 49.9 percent and 48.4 percent year on year, while rising by 436.5 percent and 365.8 percent month on month.

In the January-March period this year, passenger vehicle output and sales in China totaled 2.684 million units and 2.877 million units, down 48.7 percent and 45.4 percent year on year.

In the given month, commercial vehicles output and sales amounted to 373,000 units and 388,000 units, down 20.3 percent and 22.6 percent year on year. In the first three months of the year, commercial vehicles output and sales amounted to 790,000 units and 794,000 units, down 28.7 percent and 28.4 percent year on year.

In March, the production and sales of new energy vehicles came to 50,000 units and 53,000 units, down 56.9 percent and 53.2 percent respectively year on year. In the January-March quarter, the production and sales of new energy vehicles came to 105,000 units and 114,000 units, down 60.2 percent and 56.4 percent year on year.
