Brazil’s steel imports decrease 38 percent in January-April

In the first four months of this year, Brazilian steel imports totaled 1.127 million metric tons, decreasing by 38 percent as compared to the corresponding period of 2010, according to the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr).
 
Accordingly, in the first four months of this year Brazil's flat steel imports declined by 47.7 percent to 659,500 metric tons, while its long steel imports amounted to 321,000 metric tons, down 19.6 percent, both compared to corresponding period of 2010.
 
On the other hand, in April this year Brazil's steel product imports totaled 261,200 metric tons, decreasing by 47.8 percent year on year. Of this total, long steel imports amounted to 63,000 metric tons - down 41.7 percent, while flat steel imports came to 159,400 - down 55.1 percent.
