The Brazilian ministry of mines and energy (MME) has forwarded this week an updated mining code to the nation’s chief of staff of the presidency, after which it will be submitted for technical analysis.

The updated code makes iron ore producers and mining companies assume responsibility for recovering damaged areas. The code also updates certain terms in line with international laws.

At the same time ministry forwarded the code to the chief of staff, the Brazilian minister also signed a decree that established the structure of the local mining agency (ANN).

The National Mining Agency is expected to implement policies for the local mining sector, establish industry norms, as well as manage information and the use of mineral resources in Brazil.
