Borcelik inaugurates second HDG line in Gemlik

Turkish producer Borcelik, owned by Arcelor and Borusan, has recently inaugurated its second continuous hot dip galvanizing (HDG) line in Gemlik with an investment of $140 million. It is stated that latest technology is used in the new line. Through the new continuous HDG line, the capacity of Borcelik will increase around 1 million tons, amounting two fold of its current capacity. In the new line, “extragal” galvanizing technology, licensed by Arcelor is used. The first phase of the construction of the line was initiated in September 2003 and the second was initiated in April 2004. With this investment, competitiveness of Turkey in international white goods and automotive markets is expected to increase. Moreover, Borcelik aims to lessen Turkey's dependence on imported subject material.
