Norwegian decarbonized steel developer Blastr Green Steel has announced that it is considering Lutelandet on the west coast of Norway as an alternative location for its pellet plant.

The plant will have an annual production capacity of six million mt of high-quality (direct reduction) DR pellets, half of the output will be used as feedstock for the company’s ultra-low carbon steel plant planned in Inkoo, Finland.

“Lutelandet is a highly attractive site for the production of feedstock to our steel plant with industrial infrastructure already in place, access to a North Sea deepwater port, and clean renewable energy from hydropower and nearby wind farms,” Hans Fredrik Wittusen, CEO of Blastr Green Steel, said.

The company was considering Redcar Bulk Terminal port in the UK as a potential location for the plant, as SteelOrbis previously reported. Blastr Green Steel will decide on the pellet plant location during the second half of 2023.
