BHP Billiton closes Yandi mine in wake of another accident

Australian mining giant BHP Billiton has announced today that operations at its Western Australian Yandi mine site have been suspended following a collision between a light vehicle and a haul truck which resulted in the death of an employee of mine operator HWE Mining. This is the second mine worker death occurred at BHP Billiton's Yandi mine in the past 10 days.

An investigation into the incident in question is underway. Operations at the mine, except for essential services, are to remain suspended until further notice.

Located approximately 140km's north west of Newman, Yandi mine is operated on BHP Billiton Iron Ore's behalf by HWE Mining.
