The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that in 2010 its coal mining subsidiary Belon increased its coking coal concentrate production by 20 percent year on year to 2.46 million mt, and became one of the key suppliers of Zh-grade coals in the Russian market due to the undersupply of fat-base coking coals in the Russian domestic market after the explosion at Raspadskaya mine in May 2010.

In 2010, Belon increased its share in the Russian market to 10 percent from eight percent in 2009.

MMK intends to complete the sale of the steam coal production business at Belon within its strategy to dispose of non-core assets.
