Chinese steel giant Baosteel Group has announced that its high-strength steel production line in its cold rolling (CR) facility has been performing well. In the first 10 months of 2010, the line's production volume exceeded the designed capacity for the whole year.

High-strength cold rolled steels, commonly used in automotive production, can reduce the weight of vehicles and also help save energy. In China, the demand for high-strength cold rolled steels has been met by foreign suppliers. The development by Baosteel of production of these products will help end China's dependence on overseas supplies, Baosteel said.
