100 mt of duplex stainless steels developed and produced by Chinese steel giant Baoshan Iron and steel Corporation Ltd (Baosteel) have been delivered to Quebec, Canada-based Bombardier Inc., for the construction of key parts of railway passenger cars.

Duplex stainless steel combines the merits of austenitic stainless steel and ferritic stainless steel and thus have characteristics of high strength and corrosion resistance, and are usually used in the petrochemical, petroleum and construction industries.

China has an annual consumption of approximately 60,000 mt of duplex stainless steel, but over 80 percent of domestic demand is currently met by imports.
