On January 9, Inner Mongolia-based Chinese steel producer Baotou Iron and Steel (Baogang Group) announced that its rail and beam plant achieved a total output of 1.2651 million mt of steel rails in 2013, exceeding the production target for the year by 106,500 mt and increasing by 488,100 mt or 62.83 percent from 777,000 mt in 2012.
Before the rolling line No. 2 at Baogang's rail and beam plant was put into production in February last year, the plant had recorded the highest annual output of steel rails of any plant worldwide in 2009, 2010 and 2011. With the commissioning of the rolling line No. 2, the Baogang plant has achieved the highest annual steel rail output of any plant worldwide in 2013.
The rolling lines at Baogang's rail and beam plant are able to produce H-beams, bainitic steel rails and crane rails, among other products.
