Assofermet: Italian scrap market is on the way up

In August the scrap market in Italy showed a significant increase in prices, in line with the international uptrend which had started prior to the summer holidays.

Mills have resumed their production activities and so scrap demand is expected to be strong in the coming weeks. Consequently, scrap quotations in Italy are expected to rise in September, also considering that scrap supplies are tight.

It has been reported that in August 29,700 metric tons of pig iron and 34,500 metric tons of scrap arrived at the Italian port of Marghera, located near Venice.
