The steel mini-mill to be built in Sulaimaniyah in northern Iraq by ArcelorMittal's joint venture with Turkish partner Dayen is likely to use induction furnaces, SteelOrbis understands from market sources.

As per ArcelorMittal's official announcement, in its initial phase the mill will produce up to 250,000 mt per year of rebars from locally sourced scrap, and production could eventually increase to 500,000 mt per year.

ArcelorMittal had also confirmed that the construction is planned to start in the second quarter of 2010 and that production is planned to commence early in Q4 2011. The project will require an investment of $100-130 million, jointly subscribed by ArcelorMittal and Dayen.
