Global steel giant ArcelorMittal has announced that its Bosnia and Herzegovina-based subsidiary ArcelorMittal Zenica has started to implement two major environmental projects at its blast furnace and coke plant.

The aim of the blast furnace project is to substantially decrease pollution, improve environmental conditions and improve working conditions for employees. The project involves the installation of a de-dusting system within the cast house to reduce hard particles and pollutant emissions by almost 95 percent. The installation cost is €6 million. Work on the project began in January 2012 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.

In the coke plant a new charging machine will be installed within the next year, with a project cost of approximately €3 million. The charging machine will be completely automatic and will enable a significant reduction in pollution from the coke plant.
