For the second consecutive year, ArcelorMittal USA has been selected as a 2009 Energy Star Partner of the Year for Energy Management by the relevant US authorities.

Each year, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the US Department of Energy (DOE) honor organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protect the environment through energy efficiency.

According to a statement released by ArcelorMittal, ArcelorMittal's US facilities have focused on improving energy efficiency and reducing costs - all while increasing productivity since 2006. To accomplish these goals, the company launched an Energy Reduction Initiative that, over the past three years, has helped it accomplish a 4.1 percent improvement in energy intensity. This is equivalent to $131 million of annualized savings.

"While we have a lot to celebrate, we must continue to find ways to decrease energy use," said Larry Fabina, Energy Conservation Program Manager, ArcelorMittal USA. "Our commitment to energy reduction is an ongoing process and does not end when goals are achieved."
