ArcelorMittal to idle furnace at Cleveland plant

ArcelorMittal will temporarily idle one of its two blast furnaces at its Cleveland, Ohio plant, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, according to local news reports.

The company said in a statement that the C6 furnace will be shut down Thursday, April 16.

“This action is in response to the economic slowdown precipitated by the Covid-19 outbreak and represent an effort to align our steelmaking production with our customers’ needs,” the company said in a statement.
