On Saturday, the United Steelworkers (USW) union and ArcelorMittal reached a tentative agreement regarding a new three-year labor contract. The contract covers nearly 14,000 unionized workers at 15 US plants.

"After 10 long weeks of difficult negotiations that continued past the expiration of our previous contract, the hard work of our committee has resulted in a tentative agreement with ArcelorMittal," said USW International President Leo W. Gerard. "Our members' unwavering solidarity throughout the bargaining process in the face of management's high-risk scare tactics and demands for major cutbacks has been rewarded."

The contract will not be finalized until it is ratified by the USW in the next couple weeks. While details of the agreement were not publicly available, the contract is said to have similar aspects as the USW's new deal with US Steel.
