Algerian Qatari Steel to start EAF hot commissioning in two weeks

One the largest Algeria’s projects for the integrated steel production, Algerian Qatari Steel, proceeds with the investment realization. The company has recently completed the construction and the cold tests at its first 1.1 million mt EAF, the hot trials are expected to start in about two weeks, SteelOrbis has learned. The second EAF of the same annual capacity is scheduled for completion by February, according to the AQS representative.

In addition, AQS plans to start operations at its 2.5 million mt per year DRI module by the end of November. The company received its first 55,000 mt direct reduced pellet cargo in early September and, according to the sources, is negotiating the new ones.
